Written by a local author, this book provides latest and authentic information on all aspects of Sikkim. When first published, it became recognised as the best available and the most authoritative on this region, a sort of a modern gazetteer even referred to by the locals, Government officials and tourist guides. Highly in demand and widely available, the book – a veritable surivival kit with helpful fingertip information and advice for tourists – has gone into many editions.
A major highlight of this book are detailed and accurate road maps of some important towns in this region as well as trekking routes depicting the distances. Minutest details of trekking routes have been provided out of the first hand experience of the author. There are many illustrative pictures including the ones portraying the names of snowcapped mountains as seen from Gangtok. Lucidly explained is the geography, places of interest, customs and traditions, the flora and fauna . Comprehensive itineraries have been suggested along with the approximate tariffs to enable visitors to the state to plan out their travel budget. Information on hotels recommended for stay has also been given. A quiz on Sikkim with answers has been included for those who want to cross-check their knowledge of this state – a boon for those appearing in competitive examinations.
