This book is for rhododendron enthusiasts of whatever persuasion, as it covers the broad spectrum of topics presented at the Rhododendron Conference
held in Edinburgh in 2002. The aim of this conference was to bring together rhododendron lovers, horticulturists and scientists working on the genus.
The subjects covered include: some of the latest field work in China and SE Asia, descriptions of gardens, growing techniques, and diverse research such as the weedy aspects and problems associated with Rhododendron ponticum in the UK and R. maximum in the USA. Other current research covered includes: vireya anatomy, cold tolerance, trials and recording at the Royal Horticultural Society, pests and diseases, and the latest in molecular taxonomy. Much of this work is new and presented for the first time. The authors are of international repute and leaders in their particular fields, and write with enthusiasm as well as authority.

Rhododendrons have been in vogue for over 100 years as one of the most important shrub genera in temperate horticulture, and scientists are still discovering exciting possibilities for research in this widespread and diverse genus.
