Bogen er skrevet af Euan og Peter Cox, i forordet hedder det:

To the authors’ proposal that I (J.M. Cowan) should equip this book with a foreword I was, for several good reasons, more than ready to agree. Firstly, because a book of this kind is badly needed, Modern Rhododendrons will, I believe, be greatly in demand; for, with all the newer introductions, the many species and the still more numerous recent hybrids that may be grown today are bewildering in their multitude and diversity.

“Which of them shall I take”? Both? one? or neither? This in King Lear, was Edmund’s problem, for he had dallied with both daughters, Regan and Goneril; but the dilemma in which the rhododendron lover finds himself is far more complex  !

Modern Rhododendrons is a short treatise, readable, welltimed and to the point, dealing with species and hybrids alike; though with the emphasis ( and rightly, I think) upon the species….

Ikke uden humor skriver Euan og Peter: To our long-suffering wife and mother who listens without complaint to hours of ‘rhododendron’ talks, so long as it is strictly forbidden at mealtimes.
