R. austrinum (Pentanthera) Opret voksende løvfældende azalea der bliver op til 4 m og blomstrer i maj er hvid, gul til
orange eller rødlig-orange og normalt duftende. Findes i skove og ved flodbreder i nordvest Florida og
Georgia-Alabama kystnære sletter til det sydøstlige Mississippi ved lavere højder SØ-USA. Arten er tetraploid (4N) og varierer meget på voksestederne.
