Kræver veldrænet jord på et kølig og lyst sted. Hjemmehørende på stejle skrænter og klipper fra 3500 til 4700 m. i Kina (SØ-Tibet, NV-Yunnan og SV-Sichuan).
Man har ment at dette kryds giver R. x bathyphyllum, men det er nok R. proteoides x R. aganniphum var. schizopeplum.
