R. tephropeplum (Tephropepla). Lav opret eller stor bred stedsegrøn busk med en glat mørkebrun skrællende bark.
De variable blade er typisk snævert elliptisk til aflangt-ovalt med en skinnende mørkegrøn oversiden og en lysere skællet underside.
Den nye vækst er lys rød-lilla. De klokken-formede blomster (maj) er også variable, de spænder i farver fra purpurrød til carmine-rose eller pink.
Calyx er oftest tlbagebøjet i modsætning af R. xanthostephantum. Denne variable art er ualmindelig i dyrkning og er ikke hårdfør i Danmark. Vildtvoksende i Øst Arunachal Pradesh, SØ Tibet, N Burma og NV Yunnan, Kina.
De vokser på sten og klipper fra 2400 til 3500 m i områder med stor nedbør og kræver derfor god dræning.

R. tephropeplum affinity DJHMV#133 This is a recent introduction that appears to be a new species, possibly related to, or maybe a Vietnamese form of,
the widespread tephropeplum from the Sino-Himalaya. This is a collection from N Vietnam and many of the new introductions from that region are turning
out to be much more tolerant of cold temperatures than their northern counterparts. This possibly new species features interesting narrow and
brownish-silvery scaly foliage and clusters of narrowly tubular pink to pale pink flowers. NOTE: This was sold in the past as “xanthostephanum aff.
” but we have since flowered the very precocious seedlings and they are pinkish and much more similar to tephropeplum. (Actually, there is also a
“xanthostephanum aff.” with yellow flowers that we have flowered from the same region.) Almost certainly a new species and yet another mystery plant
from this exciting part of the world. (+5\R1\2) RSBG#105sd2007.
