Distribution in the wild: N & NW Yunnan, China.
Growing in open situations and amongst scrub, at elevations of 3,000-3,700m.
Identification:
Shrub, broadly upright, 1 to 2.5m high;
branchlets stout.
Leaf bud scales deciduous.
Leaves usually aromatic,
lanceolate through elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate,
4 to 7.3cm long by 1.6 to 2.6cm wide,
apex acute or acuminate,
base obtuse or rounded;
upper surface dark green, shiny, reticulate,
moderately through densely lepidote,
the midrib densely puberulous;
lower surface lepidote, the scales unequal, very large,
glistening, thin, flat or concave (dipping in towards the centre),
yellowish, golden or brown,
half their own diameter apart.
Inflorescence 4-8-flowered.
Corolla 2.2 to 3cm long, funnel-campanulate or widely funnel-campanulate,
slightly zygomorphic,
rose, rose-purple or purple,
spotted reddish on the upper lobes.
Style straight and shorter than the longest stamens.
Capsule sometimes pubescent at the apex.
